PAST Homecomings

Homecoming 2013

Homecoming has become an annual tradition at Cal State Fullerton for alumni, students and the community and the 2013 event was no exception. This family-oriented event on Saturday, February 2 was the capstone of an amazing week of activities including an all-campus pep rally, Titan fashion show and Dr. Mildred García's presidential inauguration.

The festivities marked the sixth anniversary of this Titan tradition and welcomed approximately 1,500 attendees to the festival and 3,978 attendees at the Titan men’s basketball game verses the University of Hawaii Warriors. This year’s event hit multiple records including:

  • Largest homecoming festival attendance
  • Largest student participation turnout
  • Largest home game crowd in four years

Homecoming 2013 was a family affair with a wide offering of activities for children and adults. Young Titans had an exciting evening as they jumped in the bounce house, played carnival games at the Associated Students/Titan Tusk Force booths, had balloon animals crafted and faces painted.

Current students came out in support and the first 200 to check in were given a free meal and t-shirt. A giant basketball toss, bungee run, video game truck and photo booth kept them busy between eating In-N-Out and great performances by SPICA, the CSUF Varsity Band, Cheer Squad and 12-time National Championship Dance Team.

Alumni also had the opportunity to tour our beautiful campus and show off their alma mater to family members. Campus tours were provided, giving a close-up look at Steven G. Mihaylo College of Business and Economics building, a view of the impressive facelift to the Alumni Lounge and a look at the new student housing facility and dining hall, “The Gastronome.”

Homecoming 2013 would not have been complete without the exhilarating game between the CSUF men’s basketball team against The University of Hawaii where the Titans battled it out, ending the game with a loss by only two points. Coach Andy Newman said, “The atmosphere was phenomenal. The students, alumni, everybody came back. It was a great job of getting that gym packed. It was a tremendous environment, and it really helped our guys a lot. We only shot 26 percent from three and the crowd was worth 15-20 points tonight, no question. I really appreciate it, the guys appreciate it, and it was fun to see.”

In honor of the “First Intercollegiate Elephant Race in Human History” held at Cal State Fullerton in 1962, a mock elephant race sponsored by Liberty Mutual Insurance was held during half-time.

Homecoming 2013 was proudly sponsored by Liberty Mutual Insurance and co-sponsored by Associated Students Inc., Cal State Fullerton Alumni Association, In-N-Out Burger, New Student Programs, OC Choice Catering, Titan Athletics, Titan Athletics and Titan Shops.
