Nominations

Vision & Visionaries (V&V) was established in 1994 as an event to recognize Cal State Fullerton’s most distinguished alumni. Above all other university accolades, the Vision & Visionaries award is the highest honor that can be bestowed upon alumni of this university.

The categories of distinction include:

• Distinguished Alumnus/na Award
• Honorary Alumnus/na Award
• Recent Graduate/Young Alumni Achievement Award

 

Important Dates:

• Friday, September 23, 2016…………Deadline for Nominations
• Tuesday, October 11, 2016..………...Presentations made to the selection committee

The nominator or his/her designee may present a 3-5 minute presentation regarding their potential nominee to the selection committee. This is not mandatory but highly recommended.

• November 2016.………………..Vision & Visionaries Awardees are announced
• March 4, 2017............................Vision & Visionaries Award Ceremony

The selection committee is comprised of the Cal State Fullerton Alumni Association Board of Directors executive committee, the ASI President or designee and the Executive Director of Alumni Engagement.  Nominations are reviewed and recommendations are presented for approval to the Vice President of University Advancement.

It is at the discretion of the selection committee to determine the number of awards to be presented at this year's ceremony. More than one distinguished alumnus/na may be selected from a single college in any given year.

The selection committee may consider a nomination for a different category than it was originally submitted.

Distinguished Alumni Award

Recipients of this category are selected from individuals who have received a degree (baccalaureate and/or graduate) or credential from Cal State Fullerton and have:

1. Been previously recognized for accomplishments in their profession (e.g. business, the arts, community service, government and science) or for significant contributions benefiting their community, state or nation.
2. Nominations may be considered for an alumnus/na who has demonstrated significant and/or exceptional contributions to Cal State Fullerton through dedication and service but may not have extensive or notable career achievements.
3. Former students who are non-graduates may be considered based upon the individual's contribution to Cal State Fullerton and subsequent career achievements.
4. Have agreed to attend the awards ceremony to personally accept the award.

 

Honorary Alumni Award

Recipients of this category are not graduates of Cal State Fullerton and have:

1. Been previously recognized for accomplishments in their profession (e.g. business, the arts, community service, government and science) or have demonstrated significant contributions benefiting their community, state or nation.
2. Demonstrated time and dedication to Cal State Fullerton and its initiatives.
3. Have agreed to attend the ceremony to personally accept the award.

 

Recent Graduate Achievement Award

Recipients of this category are selected from individuals who have received a degree (baccalaureate and/or graduate) or credential from Cal State Fullerton and have:

1. Graduated from Cal State Fullerton within the past 10 years at the time of nomination.
2. Demonstrate exceptional achievement and significant contributions to their profession, community/society or university. Recipient must exemplify outstanding professional and personal development either through traditional channels or innovative approaches.
3. Have agreed to attend the awards ceremony to personally accept the award.

Members of the Cal State Fullerton Alumni Association Board of Directors and current employees of Cal State Fullerton are not eligible to receive this award.

 

2016-2017 Nomination Process

1. The deadline to accept nominations for the 2016-2017 Vision & Visionaries Awards is Friday, September 23, 2016.
2. Alumni and campus community (including faculty, emeriti, staff and administration) may submit a nomination. Nominations by faculty and staff of the academic departments must be approved by the Dean of the respective college prior to submission.
3. The Dean corresponding to the nominee’s college of graduation will be notified as soon as possible in the event a nomination is submitted from the community-at-large.
4. The V&V selection committee will review all submitted material and put forth their recommendations to the Vice President of University Advancement. Upon closing of the nominations, the selection committee determines a date in which the nominator or his/her designee may provide a five minute presentation to the selection committee regarding their potential honoree. This is not mandatory but highly recommended.
5. Nominees not selected for the award are automatically considered by the selection committee for subsequent consecutive year. No resubmission is necessary but additional supporting materials can be submitted.
6. Nominations past two years of submission will not be reconsidered.  A new nomination with an updated portfolio of accomplishments must be submitted by the deadline date.

 

Submission Requirements:

Nomination letters should clearly state…

• Name of nominator – name of the college or school Dean (if applicable)

• Name of nominee

• The award(s) for consideration

The nomination letter must communicate how the nominee meets the stated criteria and demonstrate how this person/organization positively contributes to Cal State Fullerton, its students and community and/or they have demonstrated significant contributions benefiting their community, state or nation.

 

Supporting documents may include:

• Candidate's biography

• Resume or Curriculum Vitae

• Examples of recognition and other documents supporting the candidate's nomination
