Join the Board of Directors

The CSUF Alumni Association accepts applications year-round to serve on the board of directors. The deadline to apply for a term beginning in July 2023 is March 24, 2023. The Nomination Committee will meet in April to consider applications. All applicants will be notified in June of the Committee’s decision. Applications received will be kept on file should any vacancies occur within the year. All board member must be a degreed alumnus/alumna of CSUF and a current member of the CSUF Alumni Association.

Expectations of Board Membership

General
Directors serve with the knowledge that they help to promote University excellence. General expectations of directors include:

  • Support of the University’s philanthropic mission by donating annually to the Alumni Association Endowed Scholarship fund.

  • Assist in identification of prospective donors and securing support, as appropriate.

  • Serving as an advocate for the University within the greater community.

  • Assist in identification and recruitment of new board members.

  • Attendance and participation at Alumni Association and University programs and events, as appropriate.

  • Promoting Alumni Association membership.

  • Compliance with the University’s Conflict of Interest Policy.

Meetings
Directors are required to attend regular and special board meetings. The board of directors has four (4) regular quarterly meetings and an annual retreat. Additional special meetings may be called as needed. Directors with unexcused absences from any two meetings of the board over the course of the fiscal year shall be discharged from service.

Directors are expected to underwrite their own transportation and lodging as necessary.

Committee and Strikeforce Involvement
Directors are encouraged to provide leadership and participate in standing committees and/or strikeforce teams to advance the goals and objectives of the Association.

Event Attendance 
Board members are expected to attend, at their own expense, the following Alumni and University events. 

Volunteer Expectations

Directors may be asked to volunteer for events, activities, and special projects such as Homecoming, scholarship review and Grad Fest.

Directors have the option to serve as a liaison between the Association and a campus college, department, club, or organization of their choosing.

Cal State Fullerton Alumni Association directors are often contributors to multiple programs on campus. Participation as an Alumni Association director should not discourage their continued support of other organizations on campus.
