Gayle Jacobe Olson-Binder ’77 (B.S. counseling) has been appointed by the Poway USD merit system Personnel Commissioner. Previously, she was a teacher, counselor, psychologist, administrator, ACSA State President for Student Services & Special Education then Retire Committee President.

Christine Hernandez ’09 (B.A. english) was honored by the City of Westminster as one of five Women of Distinction during Women’s History Month in March 2026. The annual award recognizes women who positively impact the community through leadership, activism, volunteerism, and service.

Mitch Cruzan ’81, ’84 (B.A. biological science, M.A. biological science) recently published his second book: Looking Down the Tree – The Evolutionary Biology of Human Origins. He also serves as Assistant Chair, Department of Biology at Portland State University and was recently promoted to Senior Editor for the scientific journal, Molecular Ecology.
